Stuka Rocket

The Wurfrahmen 40 (literally "launch frame 40") was a German World War II multiple rocket launcher. It combined a vehicle such as the SdKfz 251 half track or captured ex-French Renault UE Chenillette with rocket artillery to form a more mobile and slightly more protected artillery piece than the towed Nebelwerfer. It was nicknamed Stuka zu Fuss ("Stuka on Foot" or "Walking Stuka") and "Bellowing Cow".

History

The weapon consisted of frames attached to the sides or rear of the vehicle holding 300 mm high explosive (HE) rockets; 280 mm HE and 320 mm incendiary rockets were also used. As with all contemporary rocket artillery, the rockets tended to be inaccurate and therefore a large quantity of them were launched at a target whenever possible. The shock effect of a large quantity of HE arriving on target all at once was devastating. When used on the most common mounting, the Sdkfz-251 half track, six frames were used, with three on each side.

Tactics & Tips

  • Use them too shoot and scoot.
  • Use a spotter, such as a sniper, to hit targets the enemy doesn't think you can see.
  • Move close as possible for maximum accuracy.
  • The impact damage is huge, but the area of effect damage is not. This thing can kill buildings in a few hits.
  • Other then the Nebelwerfer it does not do much damage over time (burn damage), but is quite effective against armor.
  • Use an officer on it, draw enemies into your bombardments, and get shorter reload time with veterancy to make this a fearsome unit.
  • Using two Stukas at the same time creates a lot of destruction. Exploit the extremely low cool down of the Stuka, keep it near the front lines. If you only wish to scatter out the enemy, and not kill him, use two stukas firing one after the other in 30 second intervals.
  • Have in mind the Stuka is speedy, but has a odd path system, as well as a frail health. Always be ready for an enemy Sherman or airborne rush when using a Stuka, have several fallback positions clear of path obstructions.
