The spotter in a sniper team detects, observes, and assigns targets and watches for the results of the shot. Using his spotting scope, he will also read the wind by using physical indicators and the mirage caused by the heat on the ground. Also, in conjunction with the shooter, he will accurately make calculations for distance, angle shooting (slant range), mil dot related calculations, correction for atmospheric conditions, and leads for moving targets.
He also provides the team security, therefore he is usually armed with an assault rifle. It is often the case that the sniper rifle is assigned exclusively to a single person, therefore in the case of rotation the spotter carries two weapons.
The spotter is also usually tasked to ensure proper communication with adjacent units, adjusting how the indirect fire and close air support will work for the team.
In OMG
In OMG infantry commanders have had great success using snipers as scouts. However, snipers are rare and as a result, many men have stepped up to to the call and have been trained in the camouflage techniques of snipers. These brave men can blend themselves in the environment in board daylight and regularly report enemy positions to friendly forces. They are unarmed so avoid enemy patrols at all cost.
The spotter is a unarmed cloak able unit, like the sniper, that has a superior line of sight and stealth detection.
Tactics and Tips
- They look just like Snipers. Use this to bait the enemy into traps.
- Use these units for reconnaissance and let them free up you sniper for shooting.
