The Panther was a tank fielded by Germany in World War II that served from mid-1943 to the end of the European war in 1945. It was intended as a counter to the T-34, and to replace the Panzer IV and III, though it served along with them and the heavy tanks until the end of the war. The Panther's excellent combination of firepower, mobility, and protection served as a benchmark for other nations' late war and immediate post-war tank designs and it is frequently regarded (along with the Soviet T-34 Tank) as the best tank design of World War II.
In OMG and CoH it is used by the Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite and available in any doctrine.

History
After the shock of facing the Soviet T-34 tank for the first time, German designers scrambled to create their own version of this tank to equip their Panzer forces. Though it utilized sloped amour like the T-34, the Panther owed very little to the T-34 aside from inspiration. One of the strengths of the T-34 was its robust and simple construction, something which the designer's of the Panther did not copy. Its frontal amour was more effective than the Tiger I's, and it carried a new 7.5cm KwK42 gun that possessed better amour penetration than the Tiger I's 8.8cm KwK36 gun. Though classified as a medium tank, it weighed the same as heavy tanks field by other nations, and boasted the same level of amour and armament. Its ground pressure ratio was excellent, giving it good mobility in off-road areas. All this came at a price, as the Panther was initially very unreliable, and later models still required a strict maintenance schedule to stay operational.
Tactics & Tips
- The Panther has better frontal amour then the Tiger, use this to your advantage by facing the front towards the oncoming fire. Be advised, though that the Panther has weak rear and side armor, making it vulnerable to flanking attacks.
- The Panther already has an advantage over most allied tanks. Use the Panther to overpower allied medium armor.
- High speed and heavy crush make this a perfect unit for taking out enemy key units such as priests and calliopes.
- Do not expect to take on AT guns with this tank - Panther's have terrible accuracy versus these.
- Panthers have one of the best direct fire ranges in the game, losing out only to Pak gun and Flak 88s. Exploit this when fighting enemy infantry(versus which the panther fares poorly) and tanks. Have spotter units for the panther when defending.
- Even though the panther has insane frontal armor, it has only 10 percent more HP than a M4 Sherman. Do not take on high-penetration units like recoilless rifles and 57mm Anti Tank Guns with it. It is ill-advised to attack the M26 Pershing with the Panther as well.
- Do not let this tank get hit with sticky bombs. The Panther relies heavily on it's speed to be effective - engine damage is crippling.
- Always be stationary when shooting at infantry, moving back only to stay out of their range - the Panther can only hit infantry decently when stationary.
