The Churchill Crocodile is a Churchill Tank with a flamethrower.
History
One of the more notable Churchills, it was a Churchill VII which replaced the hull machine gun with a flamethrower. The fuel was in an armored wheeled trailer towed behind. It could fire several 1 second bursts over 150 yards. The crocodile nickname came from the fuel trailer it towed behind, which provided the fuel for the flamethrower. Once the trailer was empty, and full of dangerous gasoline vapor, the trailer was unhitched so the tank could continue fighting. In the event the trailer was hit, the tank would often escape unharmed. Since it was based off of the Churchill VII, rather than the more common IV and VI models, it's frontal armor was significant. The Churchill VII was specifically up-armored to make it impervious to the 8.8cm rounds fired from the FlaK36 and Tiger I. The Crocodile was one of 'Hobart's Funnies'.
