OMG Mod's 2016 Winter Tournament

As the days get shorter and the nights colder, it's time to settle in for a new OMG tournament. Since the summer the mod has seen an upswing in player numbers and it's about time we put the best players of the mod head-to-head to find out which team reigns supreme!

Battle commences at 5pm GMT on Saturday, 3rd December 2016. Finals only will take place on Sunday, 4th December. The tournament will be a simple knock-out, single elimination format. The first round will be a best of one, with faction choice decided by the lower seeded team. Subsequent rounds will be best-of-threes.

All participants will be granted one Reward Unit for their participation. Finalists will get two, and the winning team shall receive eternal glory and bragging rights!

Pre-arranged teams should sign up in this thread. Players who wish to play, but do not have a pre-arranged partner may still enter the tournament by signing up in this thread. Players signing up solo, or who's teammates do not show up, may form scratch teams on the day. However, you must stay with your teammate throughout all rounds or face disqualification.

With the tournament just over a week away, there's no time like the present to get your practise in - so go get playing!

Update: Holoween has very kindly offered a 50eu Steam voucher as the top prize! This will be split between the players of the winning team.

Please join the OMG Steam group for reminders and updates on the tournament as it approaches! http://steamcommunity.com/groups/omgmod

Full Rules

  • Format: 2v2 Single Elimination Knockout. Brackets will be posted on the day.
  • Start Time: 1700 GMT, Saturday 3rd December 2016 and Sunday 4th December 2016 (finals). Equates to 0900 Pacific time, 1200 Eastern.
  • Teams: Pre-arranged teams should sign up in this thread. BOTH players should make a sign-up post. Single players who are happy to form scratch teams on the day or be randomly allocated should sign up in this thread.
  • Map Choice: Participant teams may choose their maps each round, but the same map must be played for all games. Choice is decided by a process of veto; the lower seed team begins by vetoing one map, then their opponents veto one map, and this continues until one map remains.
  • Map Pool: RN175, Operation Martlet, Foy, Road to Carentan, In Der Hitze
  • Faction Choice: The lower seed team will have faction choice for the best-of-ones. In the best-of-three rounds, factions are alternated for the first two games, and in the event of a 1-1 tie, the lower seed team takes faction choice for the third game.
  • Finals: The finals will be played on Sunday 4th December at 5pm GMT and will be a best-of-three. The lower seeded team retains first map veto, but in the event of a tie-break, faction choice is decided by the team who won in the shortest amount of time.
  • Companies: FUN companies will be used for the tournament. You must create a fresh company prior to starting each new round, and keep that company until the round is concluded. You may not have any experience on your units prior to starting each new round but you are allowed to keep veterancy within the games of each individual round. To reiterate, you must keep the same company for every game within a round - so if you lose a low resupply unit like a King Tiger in your first match, prepare to innovate! You should still rebuild your company to the best of your ability in between each game, subject to resupply.
  • VPs and Resource Bonuses: Every participant will be allocated a capped allowance of 30VPs to use on doctrinal abilities. You may use Resource Bonuses. Any attempt to skirt the VP cap will lead to disqualification.
  • Livestreaming/Shoutcasting: Players may livestream their games if they wish up until the finals -  these will be shoutcasted, more details to follow soon.
  • Prizes: One reward unit will be awarded to every participant. An additional reward unit will be awarded to all participants who make it through to the finals. The winning team will be awarded a 50eu Steam voucher. Anyone wishing to donate cash for a prize should speak to Tommy.
  • Drops: In the event of a player drop or disconnect, normal OMG rules apply - if accidental and before 5 minutes, the game is rehosted. If the drop occurs after 5 minutes, the game is played out (but the team with the dropped player may indicate that they are pulling off as a result)
  • Exploits and poor sportsmanship: Usual OMG rules apply for the tournament. A breach of any of these rules, or exceptionally poor sportsmanship on the day may lead to your team's disqualification and further disciplinary actions.
  • Disputes: Any disputes will be resolved by the referee and tournament organiser, Tommy. All referee decisions are final.

Suggestions for the optimal tournament experience
  • Arrive early! The tournament begins at 5pm but if you get there late you may find yourself being replaced. We won't be hanging around for latecomers!
  • Synchronise companies! There is no restriction on how you build your company - the sky's the limit.
  • Use teamwork! Almost goes without saying, doesn't it. You'd be surprised how well a 'lower skilled' team can topple a couple of heavyweights through superior synchronicity.
  • Clear your schedule! Saturday, when the majority of games will be played, will likely have semi-finalists playing 3 rounds - that's anywhere between 5 and 7 games! Please respect the work it takes to organise the tournament and your teammate by not dropping out halfway through. Especially relevant if you are a strong player who is likely to make it through several rounds.

I know, I'm only half serious - I'd probably take away RTC seeing as people are whining about it...

For clarity: we can change our company out entirely between rounds correct? For example if in round 1 I am Wehrmacht Terror, in round 2 I can play Panzer Elite Luftwaffe.

Correct Nick. You just can't migrate mid-round if you're playing a BO3.

I have played 0 matches so far of this War and thus have 4 Vps for my fun companies, would it be possible to be given VPs for this or am I out of luck?
