Cosmi, the 30-year value-priced consumer software pioneer, today announced the acquisition of Chaska, Minnesota-based ValuSoft, the PC value line of THQ Inc. The combination will make the new ValuSoft+Cosmi venture the second largest U.S. Retail Publisher of PC Games in units sold and the #1 Retail Publisher in the Value Software Category by units sold. The acquisition was consummated through the creation of ValuSoft Finance LLC, a sister company to Cosmi.

Well-known for its best-selling franchises, including 18 Wheels of Steel and Master Cook, ValuSoft is a global PC publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment and productivity software. Cosmi and ValuSoft together have dominated the value software category since 1997 and have expanded as global publishers, serving more than 25,000 retail outlets and numerous e-commerce sites.

As a developer and publisher, Cosmi has been credited with many industry innovations and design patents, including parallax scrolling screens, 3D animation, flight simulators, desktop publishing, packaging patents and more. With more than 100 million programs sold, Cosmi ranks as one of the premier gaming and productivity software companies in the world.

"We look forward to integrating ValuSoft's catalog along with its sales, marketing and software development team to continue our growth in the 'Value' retail channel," explained Edward O. Lanchantin, Cosmi President. "Adding ValuSoft gives us the significant size and scope to better meet the needs of our retailer network and customers."

"THQ's product strategy is aligned to create and market high-quality video games for both consoles and PCs. With the transition of the 'Value' PC business to Cosmi, our internal resources are now focused on our core video game portfolio where we can drive the highest quality performance and execution for our games. This shift also presents a great, new opportunity for ValuSoft and its broad portfolio of products," said Brian Farrell, President and CEO, THQ Inc.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Some news blurb...

Quote
4) THQ Inc. (THQI) - Speculative Buy

THQI shares are up 19.05% this month, closing at $0.75. Shares outperformed the Nasdaq last week but underperformed the index for the year. The company is inherently risky, since its market capitalization is just $51.3 million. In 2007, the company traded at around $36.00. THQ experienced a cash flow crunch after launching uDraw, a game tablet that failed to interest consumers.

Investors have reason to be more optimistic, after the company gave a stronger forecast for earnings:

Net loss will be between $0.10 and $0.20
Sales will be $160 million - $170 million, compared to a previous forecast of $130 million - $150 million
Sales for the "Saints Row" game will be up after its price was cut during the holidays.
THQ will be reporting results on May 15 2012.

I have to laugh though at this, I read it too off of yahoo. The percentage gain came off of one day basically and has been dropping since and the "stronger forecast for earnings" is still a net loss just not as much.

It is up to Darksiders 2 now!

I wouldn't say it's been dropping since...

we had a +20% day
               +30% day
               -10% day
               +10% day
      and a -3%  day

that's money in my poket

but, ya... darksiders 2 can make or break THQ

I mean there was that big jump from .57c to .75c but it has been closing lower and lower since then.

Friday the 20th it closed at .75c a share
Monday it closed .67c
Tuesday it closed .727c
Today it closed .704c

Just way too unstable for my tastes, I'll send you some large crotched jeans because you have some big balls my friend on this one.

After the news that THQ officially shed off the low end games I was waiting for a jump in confidence, but that wasn't the case at all, there was almost no interest in the stock, which probably means most investors have already written off the company.

Good luck to you majority share holder :P
